Aircraft of the Week: Robinson R66 Turbine

Robinson Helicopter Company (RHC) was founded by Frank Robinson in 1973. Since then, Robinson has developed and produced the R22, R44, and most recently, the R66 model, the latter being the only variant to use a turbine engine. Since selling their first helicopter in 1979, Robinson has produced over 10k aircraft.

First developed in 2007, the R66 is used by various police forces as well as helicopter schools and private owners. The R66 is a single-engined helicopter with a two-bladed main rotor, a two-bladed tail rotor, and a skid landing gear. This aircraft is constructed from aluminum alloy sheet and steel. Like the R44, the R66 has both electro-mechanical instruments as well as the more modern digital glass cockpit. Additionally, it is the first Robinson with a cargo hold, which can carry up to 300 lbs.
