We would like to thank all of our players who have taken the time to give us feedback regarding problems running FSX: SE with Windows 10 , these issues include black screens, missing textures or graphics failing to load upon starting the game . The information you have provided has been crucial in progressing our internal testing and the way in which the FSX community has come together to offer support in resolving these unforeseen early issues has been outstanding. We are truly grateful to have such a supportive and responsive simulation community.
After an extensive investigation we have concluded that the difficulties being experienced by players with Windows 10 are predominantly caused by DirectX 9 errors and graphic card drivers being incompatible with the new OS.
While we will continue to investigate the matter and offer support to players wherever possible, we are limited in the direct technical solutions we can provide. We therefore highly recommend contacting the manufacturer of your graphics card and seeking additional advice from them directly regarding compatibility with the Windows 10 operating system. Although many modern drivers include an update feature which will let you check for a new release, it is always worth checking on the manufacturer websites to see what advice they are offering for using Windows 10 with their hardware. Please see the list below for further details.
Since the launch of Windows 10, Microsoft has released a number of updates to the operating system. We advise that you download and install these, as many players are reporting improvements in running FSX: SE after having done so. For the latest information regarding Windows 10 updates and information about how to install these please click here.
Additionally, because of the extensive range of third party add-on content which has become available for FSX over the years, it is not possible for us to test all of the possible configurations of hardware and content which you might be using at home. We therefore advise starting off with a fresh installation of FSX: Steam Edition and subsequently installing each add-on in a methodical fashion. In the event that you do encounter an issue with a third party add-on, please check with the respective developer directly for further support advice about using their content with Windows 10.
An updated list of potential fixes recommended by our FSX: Steam Edition Development team can be found by clicking here. Please keep in mind that while these fixes may work for some people, we cannot guarantee they will work for everyone.
We apologise for any inconvenience the current situation may cause you. Support remains available through our dedicated FSX: SE support website: http://dovetailgames.kayako.com/
