Light Up The Skies With The Latest From A2A Simulations!

Set the virtual skies alight this week with A2A Simulations 3D Lights REDUX ™, now available for FSX: Steam Edition (click here for store link). This realistic lighting system casts realistic light out into 3D space, creating stunning visuals and a more immersive flying experience.

In real life, it is always spectacular to watch an aircraft fly at night, with the glow emanating from strobes, beacons, and landing lights. Now the 3D Lights Redux ™ system brings this authentic experience into Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition.

3D Lights Redux ™ gives all core FSX aircraft an entirely new suite of lights and effects. With 3D Lights Redux, some landing lights have vintage bulbs (Douglas DC3 style), halogens, and even the latest Xenon lights. This package also adds an older style red beacon, smaller 2-pulse strobes, single bright strobes, and realistic navigation lights. There are also custom lights for aircraft like the Airbus A321 with the quad nose-gear mounted lights. The Boeing 747 gains a recreation of its classic twin headlamps and all aircraft receive an enhanced ambiance when these lights are operated.

Features:

Over 40 new lighting effects including strobes, beacons, navigation, and runway lights

– Fully-realized 3D landing lights which actually cast light into space

– Vintage, halogen, and modern xenon lights included

– Installs into all twenty-four core FSX:SE aircraft as well

– Entirely new effects suite resulting in stunningly realistic night time environments

We have written a guide on how to install  3D Lights into add-on aircraft. Check it out here!

3D Lights is also available as part of the FSX: Premium Edition.

“Great improvement over default lighting!” –JimSum

If you are looking for a new addition to your fleet, look no further than the Heinkel’s He 219 Uhu from A2A Simulations’ Aircraft Factory range (click here for store link). The Uhu, or “Owl” is undoubtedly one of the most advanced aircraft to emerge from World War II.

Conceived solely as a gun platform to serve as a defensive night fighter, the Uhu featured a bubble-top cockpit that was placed well forward, affording the pilot superb visibility.  The cockpit was equipped with ejection seats, and was exceptionally well laid out.  All controls were easy to reach and identify.  Combined with the tricycle landing gear, this plane was truly a “pilot’s aircraft” and was very easy to fly.  It was stable and predictable, exactly what one would expect from a night fighter.  The earlier versions were adequately powered by the Daimler-Benz DB 603A, and had good rates of climb and acceptable top speeds approaching 400 mph.  Later versions of the He 219 however, were much heavier, and because the more advanced, powerful engines were in short supply, these variants suffered in performance.

Ground-based stations would direct the night fighter to the bomber stream, and when in range, the Uhu’s radar operator would then take over and guide the pilot to within 100 meters of the target.  The bristling antennae were ugly and added a lot of drag, substantially reducing the aircraft’s ultimate top speed.  Without the radar, however, the aircraft would have been useless at night, and since the Uhu was still about 150 mph faster than the enemy four-engine bombers, this wasn’t much of a problem.

Here’s a preview of the Uhu in action!
