Oshkosh Or Bust!

By Hal Bryan – 20 July 2007

EAA AirVentureOshkosh Or Bust 1 is here! Well, actually, it’s way over there, but that’s where I’ll be as of tomorrow. So much planning, logistics, blind luck, and misunderstandings go into a show like this that it’s a relief to know that we’re apparently ready for it. We must be ready, since we’re out of time! We’ve got people flying in from around the country to help staff our booth. We’ve designed and printed flyers and quick reference cards. We’ve arranged for exhibitor credentials (my life these days can be tracked by a trail of credentials and lanyards), paid for electricity and carpeting, and begged CH Products to loan us some controllers. While I can’t wait to reconnect with some of my dear old friends that I see every year, I’ve made new friends as well. One, Jackie at Microsoft’s print production services, asked if I really wanted our flyers to list the same retail price for both the Standard and Deluxe versions of Flight Simulator X (I didn’t, and she fixed it before printing eleventeen trillion of them). Another, Michelle at Displays2Go found a way to ship my literature stands with Saturday delivery, even though they normally don’t do that.As always, once we step onto the show site and the hangar door opens and the public swarms in, we’ll all take a deep breath and wonder why we were ever worried at all. AirVenture always works out well for us. Or maybe it’s just that there’s so much good stuff to see that a few logistical hiccups just don’t matter.

If you make it to the show, please stop by and say hello! If not, keep an eye on our News and Events page for EAA’s AirVenture newsfeed, as well as the feed from our friends at Aero-News Network. Also, be sure to check out EAA’s video coverage of the show.

Be sure to keep an eye on our blogs, as well – there’s no telling what news may crop up there. If there’s another golf cart incident like last year, for instance, I’ll use my blog to collect donations for the “bail out the boss” fund. If he’s lucky.

With that, then, off we go. Hope to see some of you there!
